Arches National Park

Arches National Park is located near Moab in eastern Utah of U.S.The area is 310 km2. It is known for preserving over 2000 natural sandstone arches. It includes the world-famous Delicate Arch and a variety of unique geological resources and formations. The park was designated as a national monument on April 12, 1929. It was redesignated as a national park on November 12, 1971.

The notable features of the Arches National Park include:

Delicate Arch — a lone-standing arch which has become a symbol of Utah.
Balanced Rock — a large balancing rock, the size of three school buses.
Double Arch — two arches that share a common end.
Landscape Arch — a very thin, very long arch over 300 feet (100 m); the largest in the park.
Fiery Furnace — an area of maze-like narrow passages and tall rock columns (see biblical reference Fiery Furnace).
Devil's Garden — with many arches and columns scattered along a ridge.
Dark Angel — a free-standing column of dark stone at the end of the Devil's Garden trail.
Courthouse Towers — a collection of tall stone columns.
Petrified dunes — petrified remnants of sand dunes blown from the ancient lakes that covered the area.
Wall Arch —located along the popular Devils Garden Trail. Collapsed sometime on August 4-5, 2008.

Old Faithful Geyser of California

Old Faithful is a cone geyser located in Wyoming, in Yellowstone National Park in the United States. Take a look at the following public domain photos of Old Faithful. The geyser was named in 1870 during the Washburn-Langford-Doane Expedition and was the first geyser in the park to receive a name. The geyser, as well as the nearby Old Faithful Inn, is part of the Old Faithful Historic District.

Eruptions of the Old Faithful can shoot 3,700 to 8,400 U.S. gallons (14–32.000 litre) of boiling water to a height of 106–185 feet (30–56 m) lasting from 1.5 to 5 minutes. The average height of an eruption is 145 feet (44 m). The highest recorded eruption was 185 feet (56 m) high. Eruptions often occur about 90 minutes apart, but this interval can range from 45 to 125 minutes on occasion.

The Scarlet Macaw

The Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao) is a large, colorful Macaw. Some consider the Scarlet to be among the most beautiful birds in the world. It is about 81 to 96 cm (32 to 36 inches) long, of which more than half is the pointed, graduated tail typical of all macaws. It can make loud, low-pitched, throaty squawks, squeaks and screams designed to carry many miles.

This beautiful bird is native to humid evergreen forests in the American tropics. It's range extends from extreme south - eastern Mexico to Amazoniain Peru and Brazil, in lowlands up to 500 m (1,640 ft) (at least formerly) up to 1,000 m (3,281 ft). It has been widely extirpated by habitat destruction and capture for the pet trade. Formerly it ranged north to southern Tamaulipas. It can still be found on the island of Coiba. It is also the Honduran national bird.

Death Valley National Park

Death Valley is a desert located in the southwestern United States.It is the lowest, driest, and hottest location in North America. Death Valley holds the record for the highest reliably reported temperature in the Western hemisphere.

Death Valley National Park is a mostly arid United States National Park located east of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in southern Inyo County and northern San Bernardino County in California, with a small extension into southwestern Nye County and extreme southern Esmeralda County in Nevada.It is the hottest and driest of the national parks in the United States.

Death Valley area are mostly located within Death Valley National Park in eastern California.The Mesquite Sand Dunes are at the northern end of the valley floor and are nearly surrounded by mountains on all sides. Due to their easy access from the road and the overall proximity of Death Valley to Hollywood, these dunes have been used to film sand dune scenes for several movies including films in the Star Wars series. The largest dune is called Star Dune and is relatively stable and stationary because it is at a point where the various winds that shape the dunes converge. The depth of the sand at its crest is 130-140 feet (40-43 m) but this is small compared to other dunes in the area that have sand depths of up to 600-700 feet (180-210 m) deep. Star Dune is shaped like a starfish.

The males are a common sight in spring flying along hedgerows and damp meadows in search of the more reclusive female which lacks the orange and is often mistaken for one of the other 'White' butterflies. The undersides are mottled green and white and create a superb camouflage when settled on flowerheads such as Cow Parsley and Garlic Mustard Alliaria petiolata. The word "Alps" was taken via French from Latin Alpes (meaning "the Alps"), which may be influenced by the Latin words albus (white) or altus (high) or more likely a Latin rendering of a Celtic or Ligurian original.
